About This Role

NexPoint is a Dallas-based alternative investment platform managing over $30 billion in permanent capital across insurance, public REITs, private REITs, and other investment vehicles, with capital deployment growing by more than $1 billion annually. The platform spans commercial real estate debt and equity across all major asset classes including multifamily, single-family rental, office, industrial, retail, hospitality, and storage.

The Head of Debt Origination – Real Estate will be responsible for sourcing, underwriting, structuring, and executing real estate investments ranging from $5 million to over $100 million, working closely with the Chief Investment Officer of the Real Estate Platform and the Chief Investment Officer of the Insurance Platform. This role leads the firm's origination strategy and institutional relationships across the full capital stack: senior and subordinate debt, mezzanine loans, preferred equity, joint venture, and direct equity investments.

Key responsibilities include leading origination efforts across major real estate asset types, developing and maintaining senior-level relationships with sponsors, developers, owners, brokers, and banks, and overseeing financial modeling and investment committee materials. The role requires structuring investments tailored to asset and market dynamics while managing transactions from initial sourcing through closing.

At the portfolio level, the Head of Debt Origination will contribute to capital allocation strategy across geographies and asset types, monitor market trends and competitive dynamics, and represent the firm externally with investors and industry participants. The position also involves providing leadership on new product development and expansion into new strategies or capital structures.

Qualified candidates will have 10 or more years of real estate investment or lending experience, a demonstrated track record of originating $200 million or more per year, and proven experience across all major capital structures. A bachelor's degree in business or finance is required, and deep market relationships across the real estate capital markets ecosystem are essential for success in this role.
