M12 Associate

M12, the corporate venture capital arm of Microsoft, is seeking an Associate based in San Francisco to join its investment team. M12 focuses on early-stage investments in Artificial Intelligence, B2B SaaS, Cloud Infrastructure, Cybersecurity, DevOps, and Gaming/Web3. Since launching in 2016, M12 has backed and helped build over 100 great companies, providing portfolio companies with value-added resources through special access to Microsoft's platform and services.

In this role, you will help build investment theses around current and new domains of interest, monitor the market, source deals, build relationships with top-tier investors, support investment processes and due diligence, and assist portfolio companies as a member of the investment team.

Research and market exploration responsibilities include: continuously monitoring market trends, industry news, and startup companies; tracking VCs, entrepreneurs, industry leaders, and sector experts; performing high-quality research and analysis on key market and industry trends; and developing new insights and opinionated views.

Deal sourcing and investment support responsibilities include: attending industry conferences and building relationships with startups and venture investors; sourcing deals aligned to key themes; assisting with due diligence evaluation including financial and unit economics analysis and valuation modeling; preparing internal investment memos; and tracking deal flow.

Operational responsibilities include metrics tracking, financial and operational KPI documentation, portfolio presentation production, and thought leadership content creation.

M12 values diversity of ideas and seeks team members with 3+ years of relevant experience in finance, investment, or technology. Candidates with backgrounds in venture capital, investment banking, or technology startups are particularly well-suited.
