Investment Analyst

About the Role

Unorthodox Ventures is an Austin-based venture capital firm focused exclusively on investing in innovative medical technology (MedTech) companies. Beyond providing capital, the firm works closely with portfolio companies on strategy, commercialization, business development, and growth. As an Investment Analyst, you will work closely with the investment team to evaluate new opportunities within the MedTech sector, conducting quantitative and qualitative research and synthesizing findings into investment recommendations.

Key Responsibilities

- Conduct diligence on prospective MedTech investments: clinical literature, disease states, standards of care, competing technologies, market dynamics, and return scenarios

- Analyze reimbursement hurdles with major insurers and government programs

- Evaluate technical and financial materials and identify key findings for the investment team

- Participate in diligence calls with management teams, physicians, customers, and technical experts

- Monitor MedTech strategic acquirers to assess acquisition likelihood for portfolio prospects

- Prepare investment memos and materials for the Investment Committee

- Represent the firm at industry conferences and events

Qualifications

- Bachelor's degree with a strong academic record

- Background in business, finance, economics, biology, biomedical engineering, pre-medicine, or another life science/engineering discipline

- Ability to critically evaluate scientific literature, clinical evidence, and technical claims

- Strong written/verbal communication and independent, self-starter mindset
