Vice President, Direct Investments

Cequel III, the family office investment platform founded by Jerry Kent (the operator behind Charter Communications, Suddenlink, and TierPoint), is hiring a Vice President, Direct Investments to work directly with the CEO/CIO on its lower middle market private equity strategy, with additional exposure to real estate and venture activity.

This is a builder's-seat role: the VP will own deal origination (proprietary and intermediated flow through bankers, brokers, and the family's operating network), underwriting (financial models, quality-of-earnings coordination, commercial diligence, and Investment Committee memoranda), and transaction execution (LOI and purchase agreement negotiation, acquisition financing, and lender relationships). Post-close, the VP takes a board seat on acquired companies, owning board cadence, monitoring, and value-creation follow-through, and later helps shape the exit thesis and lead the sale process.

Cequel III invests permanent family capital in control positions, typically $15-25M equity checks, in lower middle market companies. There is no fund life, no fundraising, and no LP reporting, so hold periods are driven by the business rather than a fund calendar.

Candidates should have 6-10 years of transaction experience with meaningful lower middle market private equity execution and control buyout reps required, along with demonstrated end-to-end deal ownership from sourcing through close, including financing. Strong modeling and structuring fluency is required, as is the ability to run a process without large-fund infrastructure. Board or portfolio oversight exposure is preferred, and founder or family seller experience is a plus.
