Role Overview

1823 Partners is a Registered Investment Adviser operating as a differentiated asset management firm focused on long-term, insurance-first investment strategies, backed by an $18.7 billion asset mandate from JAB Insurance US Holdings. The firm invests across real estate, asset-backed finance, credit, insurance solutions, and private equity, and is headquartered in Miami with an office in New York.

The firm is hiring a Principal to lead external manager selection and opportunity screening for its Opportunistic Credit platform.

Key Responsibilities

- Own the pipeline of third-party managers, funds, and SMAs across opportunistic, distressed, special situations, and asset-backed finance strategies

- Source, evaluate, and recommend external managers for primary allocations, secondaries/portfolio acquisitions, and GP stakes

- Lead investment and operational due diligence, including track record decomposition, loss ratio analysis, value-add attribution, financing usage, risk systems, and operational controls

- Negotiate mandate terms — fees, liquidity, reporting, co-invest rights, capacity, and side letters

- Partner closely with the OCIO/Investment Committee, Legal/Compliance, and Risk teams to recommend allocations and approve deal flow for further underwriting

Qualifications

Candidates should bring experience in manager selection, due diligence, and portfolio construction within private credit, opportunistic, or asset-backed finance strategies, ideally within an insurance-linked or institutional allocator context.
