About This Role

Star Mountain Capital is a rapidly growing, specialized private investment firm focused on the large and less competitive U.S. lower middle-market (LMM), targeting businesses with $5M–$50M in annual EBITDA. The firm employs three complementary strategies: private credit, private equity, and secondary private credit and PE fund investing. With approximately $4.5B in assets under management and a team of 120+ professionals — including Senior Advisors and Operating Partners with backgrounds at Blackstone/GSO, Fortress, Goldman Sachs, J.P. Morgan, and Alvarez & Marsal — Star Mountain has built a distinctive platform in an underserved segment of the U.S. private markets.

The Vice President, Portfolio Management will join the Investments team and collaborate directly with Underwriting Managing Directors to manage portfolio company relationships, monitor financial and operational performance, and drive value creation across the lower middle-market portfolio. This is a high-impact, hands-on role at the intersection of credit and equity investing.

Key responsibilities include leading portfolio company relationship management, analyzing financial and operational data for existing investments, participating in board meetings and investment committee reviews, and identifying and executing value creation opportunities. The VP will also work closely with the origination team on new deal underwriting and will have the opportunity to interact with the firm broad institutional investor base, which includes public pensions, corporate pensions, insurance companies, endowments, foundations, and family offices.

Ideal candidates will bring prior experience in private credit, private equity, investment banking, or management consulting, with strong financial modeling skills and the ability to work effectively across multiple portfolio companies simultaneously. Star Mountain is 100% employee-owned, with all U.S. employees participating in investment profits — creating meaningful long-term wealth creation opportunity.
