Asset Class Head of Private Equity

The New York City Comptroller's Bureau of Asset Management is seeking an Asset Class Head of Private Equity to lead the team responsible for overseeing private equity investments across the five New York City pension systems, with a combined portfolio representing billions in assets under management.

The Bureau of Asset Management oversees investment portfolios for the five NYC pension systems through a culture of collaboration, individual development, and teamwork. The Asset Class Head reports directly to the Chief Investment Officer and leads a team of investment professionals who source, evaluate, and recommend private equity fund and co-investment opportunities.

Key Responsibilities: The Asset Class Head will manage the private equity investment team, overseeing identification, review, and evaluation of prospective fund investments and co-investments; conducting due diligence and preparing recommendation memoranda for the internal Investment Committee and Boards of Trustees. The role encompasses monitoring and managing the existing PE portfolio, analyzing investment performance, conducting financial analyses, and preparing strategic plan presentations. Additional responsibilities include reviewing legal documents, negotiating investment terms, participating in LP advisory committee meetings, and producing investment update reports and briefing memoranda.

Qualifications: The ideal candidate brings deep expertise in private equity investing, fund evaluation, and portfolio monitoring from a leading institutional investor or alternative asset management firm. Strong analytical and quantitative capabilities, excellent communication skills, and the ability to lead and develop investment professionals are essential. Experience working with institutional LPs, pension funds, or endowments is highly valued.
