Analysis

Munich-based startup Aampere has successfully closed a €4.2 million funding round to accelerate its pan-European expansion of a digital platform dedicated to the resale of pre-owned electric vehicles. The significant capital injection aims to address inefficiencies in the burgeoning used EV market, a critical component for the broader adoption of electromobility.

The funding round was spearheaded by Estonian venture capital firm Trind Ventures, with participation from Vend Marketplaces ASA, a prominent Nordic entity known for its ownership of marketplaces like FINN.no and Blocket. Additionally, consumer investor G-FUND has joined as a new backer, alongside existing investors from GIMIC who are increasing their commitments. Several experienced business angels from the automotive sector also contributed, underscoring confidence in Aampere's model.

Founded in 2023 by Florian Reister, Niko Schmidt, and Maximilian Rost, Aampere is tackling a market characterized by fragmentation and outdated processes. The company highlights that while new EV sales are climbing, the secondary market for electric cars often suffers from slow transactions, opaque pricing, and national limitations. This inefficiency, they argue, directly impedes the mass-market transition to electric mobility, as a robust used car market is essential for affordability.

Aampere differentiates itself by offering a fully digital, end-to-end solution. Sellers, both private and commercial, can receive a binding purchase offer within 48 hours through a dealer auction system. The platform leverages a self-learning pricing algorithm, digital condition assessments, and integrated logistics to streamline the entire process. Upon acceptance of an offer, Aampere handles payment before vehicle collection and manages all subsequent logistics, providing a seamless experience.

The company reports substantial growth, with annual sales reaching several thousand electric vehicles and revenue quadrupling in the past year. This rapid scaling has also seen the team expand to over 25 employees. "With fresh capital and strong new partners by our side, we’re accelerating our expansion and further building our position in the European market," stated Florian Reister, founder and CEO of Aampere. This funding will be instrumental in scaling both sides of the platform, attracting more vehicles from sellers and expanding the dealer network across new European territories.

The used car market, particularly for EVs, is projected for significant growth. As battery technology advances and new EV models become more accessible, the volume of used EVs entering the market will increase substantially. Platforms like Aampere are strategically positioned to capitalize on this trend by providing the necessary infrastructure to facilitate efficient and transparent transactions. The investment from experienced players like Trind Ventures and Vend Marketplaces ASA signals strong market validation for Aampere's approach to solving a key bottleneck in the electric vehicle ecosystem.
