Veeda AI Raises $90M for Physical AI World Models

A significant new player has emerged in the advanced AI sector, with Veeda AI announcing a substantial $90 million USD funding round. The startup is focused on developing sophisticated 'world models' – AI systems designed to simulate and understand the complexities of the physical environment. Leading the charge at Veeda AI is Sanja Fidler, a prominent figure formerly at the helm of Nvidia's Toronto AI laboratory. Fidler, alongside fellow former Nvidia colleagues Zan Gojcic (Chief Technology Officer) and Huan Ling (Chief Scientist), established the company with a clear vision: to create the foundational simulated realities necessary for advanced physical AI. Their conviction is that these simulated environments will become indispensable infrastructure for the burgeoning field of robotics.

The impressive capital infusion was co-led by two prominent venture capital firms: Radical Ventures, based in Toronto, and the renowned Silicon Valley firm Khosla Ventures. This backing underscores the significant investor confidence in Veeda AI's ambitious mission and the potential of world models to unlock new frontiers in artificial intelligence. The company was officially incorporated in June under the name Veeda Innovation.

Fidler's departure from Nvidia, where she spent eight years leading groundbreaking research in spatial intelligence and 3D data algorithms, signals a strategic shift towards the critical importance of physical AI. Her previous work at Nvidia's Canadian research hub laid crucial groundwork for understanding and simulating physical systems, making her transition to founding Veeda AI a natural progression for advancing this specialized AI domain.
