Modern Relay Raises €2.5M for Enterprise AI Infrastructure

Modern Relay, a dual-headquartered firm with operations in Barcelona and San Francisco, has successfully closed a €2.5 million seed funding round. This capital infusion is earmarked to accelerate the development of its core offering: a foundational layer designed to streamline and govern the integration of artificial intelligence within enterprise environments. The company also marked this milestone by launching its inaugural open-source project, Omnigraph, a graph database engineered for agent-centric operations.

The funding was supported by a notable group of investors, including Point Nine, Emerge, Amino Collective, and Common Magic. The round also saw participation from prominent angel investors such as Charlie Songhurst, a Meta board member; Michael Boehler, formerly of BioNTech; and Thomas Clozel, co-founder of OWKIN. This strong backing underscores investor confidence in the critical need for robust AI infrastructure as businesses increasingly adopt AI-driven workflows.

The enterprise AI sector is experiencing significant investment, with recent funding rounds totaling over €81 million across Europe. Companies like Germany's Cognee (€7.5M), Interloom (€14.2M), and Blockbrain (€17.5M), along with Spain's own Galtea (€2.7M) and SLNG.ai (€3.3M), highlight a broader trend. Investors are prioritizing solutions that enhance AI's operationalization, governance, and interoperability, moving beyond standalone AI models to focus on the connective tissue that makes AI practical at scale.

Modern Relay addresses a growing challenge: as organizations deploy numerous AI agents across various departments, a lack of a unified foundation leads to fragmented data and duplicated efforts. Co-founder Ragnor Comerford emphasized this point, stating, “Without a shared foundation connecting them, those systems create more fragmentation than leverage.” The company's platform aims to provide this essential layer, enabling organizations to maintain context, orchestrate tasks, and ensure control over their AI deployments.

The company's strategy centers on building an operational backbone for AI within corporations. This involves creating a context graph that synchronizes information and workflows across human teams, software applications, and AI agents. By establishing a single source of truth for company operations—including policies, data, and decision-making processes—Modern Relay facilitates better coordination and governance, ensuring that all actors operate from a consistent understanding of reality.
