Terra Industries Raises $52M for Drone Manufacturing

Terra Industries, a nascent player in autonomous defense technology, has significantly bolstered its war chest, extending its seed funding round to a substantial $52 million. This capital infusion is earmarked for a dual-pronged strategy: scaling up its ambitious drone manufacturing capabilities in Africa and establishing a strategic international presence. The company's vision centers on developing and deploying defense systems tailored for the unique challenges of the Global South.

The latest funding saw participation from a robust group of existing backers, including 8VC, Silent Ventures, Nova Global, Belief Capital, and SV Angel. They were joined by new strategic investors such as Norleo Space Investments and angel investor Grant Gordon, underscoring strong market confidence in Terra's trajectory. This financial backing will directly fuel the expansion of manufacturing capacity, accelerate the deployment of its autonomous systems across critical infrastructure in developing regions, and bolster its engineering, operations, and business development teams.

Founded in 2024 by Nathan Nwachuku and Maxwell Maduka, Terra Industries is focused on creating autonomous defense solutions spanning aerial, land, and maritime domains. The company highlights that its technology is already actively safeguarding vital infrastructure, including power plants and mining operations, across several African nations, with an estimated value of approximately $11 billion. This early traction demonstrates the immediate applicability and demand for its specialized defense solutions.

A key element of Terra's expansion strategy involves establishing its first international office in London. This move is designed to provide closer proximity to global defense institutions, tap into burgeoning infrastructure markets, and access a rich pool of engineering and AI talent. Concurrently, the company is solidifying its manufacturing base on the African continent, with plans for further expansion into the Gulf, South America, and South Asia.

Central to Terra's manufacturing ambitions is the upcoming Pax-2 facility in Ghana, slated for completion in Q4 2026. This expansive 34,000-square-foot plant is projected to become Africa's largest drone factory upon reaching full operational capacity. By 2028, Pax-2 aims to achieve an annual production output of roughly 50,000 units across Terra's diverse aerial systems portfolio. This follows the company's initial manufacturing hub, Pax-1, a 15,000-square-foot facility located in Abuja, Nigeria.

Terra's product suite encompasses a range of autonomous capabilities, including long- and mid-range drones, interceptor drones, sentry towers, and unmanned ground vehicles. These systems are orchestrated by ArtemisOS, Terra's proprietary software platform. ArtemisOS enables real-time threat detection, autonomous mission planning, and coordinated responses across extensive operational areas, providing a sophisticated, integrated defense solution.

The strategic focus on manufacturing within Africa and deploying systems designed for regional needs resonates with a growing trend in the defense sector. Companies are increasingly recognizing the importance of localized production and solutions that address specific environmental and operational contexts.
