Analysis

Precision Neuroscience Corporation has successfully concluded a substantial $250 million Series D funding round, significantly bolstering its mission to advance brain-computer interface (BCI) technology. The financing, which was oversubscribed, saw participation from a diverse group of prominent investors, underscoring a growing confidence in the transformative potential of neurotechnology. This latest capital infusion brings the company's total funding to an impressive $430 million since its inception.

The round was co-led by Pershing Square Inc. and the Ackman Oxman Institute, with a leading life sciences investment fund also taking a significant role. The investor syndicate is notably broad, featuring contributions from the Duquesne Family Office, B Capital, ARK Invest, Invus, Mubadala Capital, Mirae Asset Capital, Korea Investment Partners, Hitachi Ventures, and JSL Health Capital. This wide-ranging support from sovereign wealth funds, venture capital firms, public market investors, and family offices highlights a collective belief in BCI as a pivotal emerging category within both healthcare and technology sectors.

Michael Mager, co-founder and CEO of Precision Neuroscience, emphasized the company's strategic positioning beyond just technological innovation. "We have meticulously built the clinical infrastructure, secured a robust regulatory standing, and established a solid manufacturing base essential for leadership in this field," Mager stated. "Our focus on safety in product design, coupled with deep collaborations with leading neurosurgeons and academic medical centers, forms the bedrock of our long-term vision. We are fortunate to have investors who share this forward-looking perspective."

The substantial capital raised will be strategically deployed to accelerate Precision's clinical programs, advance its proprietary Layer 7™ cortical interface through further FDA review stages, and construct the necessary infrastructure for commercial rollout. This funding follows a series of critical achievements for the company, including the completion of over 100 patient procedures across 18 major medical institutions. These procedures have established Precision's extensive clinical footprint, the largest in the BCI domain.

The company's progress is further evidenced by its FDA clearance for the Layer 7™ interface, a commercial alliance with Medtronic, and the operation of a wholly-owned MEMS manufacturing facility in Texas. Precision has demonstrated advanced BCI capabilities, including high-resolution neural recording from 4,096 electrodes and real-time decoding of intended movement. Research validating the Layer 7™ performance has been published in peer-reviewed journals, including Nature Biomedical Engineering, and supported by clinical work with institutions like Johns Hopkins University and the University of Pennsylvania.

Bill Ackman, CEO of Pershing Square and co-founder of the Ackman Oxman Institute, expressed strong conviction in the field's potential. "The brain's capacity for recovery from severe injury is profound, and neurotechnology will be instrumental in developing next-generation cures, treatments, and rehabilitation strategies," Ackman remarked. "Precision possesses the requisite team, technology, and ambition to emerge as a leader in BCI, and we are enthusiastic about supporting their journey to improve millions of lives." The company's commitment to innovation is further strengthened by the addition of Dr. John Donoghue, a pioneer in BCI and founder of BrainGate, as a Scientific Advisor.
