Grundium Acquires Visiopharm for AI Pathology Platform

Finnish digital pathology innovator Grundium has acquired Danish AI software specialist Visiopharm, forging a comprehensive platform designed to advance precision diagnostics. This strategic combination unites Grundium's advanced imaging hardware with Visiopharm's sophisticated artificial intelligence capabilities, aiming to deliver an integrated, end-to-end solution for pathology laboratories, biopharmaceutical research, and clinical development.

The merger addresses a critical need in the rapidly expanding digital pathology market, which is projected to reach significant growth in the coming years, driven by increasing demand for faster, more accurate diagnoses and the development of targeted therapies. By merging their complementary technologies, Grundium and Visiopharm are creating a powerful offering that spans from sample digitization to AI-driven analysis, enhancing efficiency and accessibility in a field where precision is paramount.

Grundium, known for its compact and high-quality Ocus® microscope scanners, founded in 2015 by former Nokia engineers, brings a focus on making high-fidelity digital pathology accessible and affordable. Visiopharm, established in 2002 by Michael Grunkin and Johan Doré Hansen, contributes its robust AI-powered image analysis software, which includes nine IVDR-cleared diagnostic algorithms for the European market. This software is already utilized by over 750 clients across more than 40 countries, underscoring its established presence and efficacy in research and diagnostics.

Mika Kuisma, CEO of Grundium, emphasized the synergy, stating, “Precision medicine begins with precision pathology.
