BYD Energy Storage Powers Chile's Oasis Project

BYD Energy Storage is set to significantly bolster Chile's renewable energy infrastructure with a substantial 2.6 GWh order for its advanced battery systems. This pivotal supply agreement is part of the expansive Oasis solar-plus-storage initiative located in the heart of Chile, a project developed in collaboration with Spanish clean energy firm Grenergy. The deal underscores the growing global demand for large-scale energy storage solutions to complement intermittent renewable generation.

The scope of BYD's contribution includes the delivery of 468 of its integrated MC Cube-T energy storage units. These systems will be strategically deployed across four key power station sites within the Oasis project: Gran Teno, Tamango, Planchón, and Monte Águila. Collectively, these units will provide the 2.6 GWh of storage capacity essential for stabilizing the grid and maximizing the output of the associated solar farms.

The Oasis project itself represents a monumental investment in Chile's clean energy future, encompassing a total photovoltaic capacity of 1.1 GW and a comprehensive 4 GWh of energy storage. With an estimated total investment of approximately $900 million, the initiative is slated for full operational status between 2026 and 2027. This ambitious undertaking highlights Chile's commitment to transitioning towards a more sustainable energy matrix, positioning it as a leader in Latin America's renewable energy sector.

Logistics for this significant deployment are already underway. The initial consignment of 168 storage units destined for the Gran Teno station has departed from Shenzhen, China, with arrival anticipated by mid-April. Subsequent shipments are proceeding as scheduled, paving the way for grid connection to commence in the second quarter of 2026. This efficient execution is critical for meeting the project's ambitious timeline.

This latest agreement marks the second major collaboration between BYD Energy Storage and Grenergy. Their prior partnership, finalized in May 2025, involved a 3.5 GWh project that was, at the time, recognized as the largest energy storage venture in Latin America. This continued partnership demonstrates a strong working relationship and mutual confidence in delivering complex, large-scale energy storage solutions.

As of 2025, the company's cumulative energy storage shipments have surpassed an impressive 135 GWh, distributed across more than 650 projects in over 110 countries.
