These inexpensive yet highly effective unmanned systems, costing mere hundreds of dollars, can inflict millions in damage to high-value assets and are increasingly responsible for combat casualties. Their evolving capabilities, including the integration of AI and fiber-optic guidance, render traditional electronic countermeasures less effective, enabling attacks far beyond conventional operational zones.

Mara's 'Spike' system is engineered to counter these evolving threats by employing a novel, distributed defense strategy. Unlike legacy counter-UAS (C-UAS) platforms designed for larger, predictable aerial targets, Spike utilizes a network of autonomous interceptors. The system comprises two key elements: 'Spotter', an AI-powered sensor unit equipped with visual, acoustic, and optional radar capabilities for comprehensive threat detection, and 'Seeker', a compact, 250-gram kinetic interceptor drone capable of speeds up to 200 km/h. Spotter identifies targets and relays precise coordinates to Seeker, which can then autonomously engage and neutralize the threat, offering a 360-degree defensive perimeter at a fraction of the cost of conventional solutions.

Daniel Kofman, co-founder and CEO of Mara, highlighted the paradigm shift caused by accessible drone technology. "The battlefield has fundamentally changed because precise aerial attacks are now incredibly cheap and easy to execute, rendering existing defenses insufficient," Kofman stated.
