Role Overview

The External Investing Group (XIG) is Goldman Sachs Asset Management's dedicated external manager platform, providing clients with investment and advisory solutions across private equity, private credit, real estate, infrastructure, hedge funds, and public strategies. With over 400 professionals across 13 offices, XIG invests or advises on more than $500 billion on behalf of sovereign wealth funds, pension plans, endowments, foundations, family offices, and ultra-high-net-worth individuals.

This Vice President role sits within the XIG Real Estate Primaries team (platform AUM c.$20bn), which handles manager selection, due diligence, and portfolio construction for the firm's external real estate investments globally, spanning primaries, secondaries, and co-investments. The team co-manages the Goldman Sachs Real Estate Diversified Income Fund (REDIF), the firm's flagship real estate interval fund.

Key Responsibilities

- Lead manager sourcing, due diligence, underwriting, negotiation, IC approval, post-close monitoring, and re-up decisions for primary fund commitments to third-party real estate managers

- Provide dedicated investment coverage to REDIF, contributing to top-down positioning and bottom-up fund and security selection

- Serve as a voting member of the XIG Real Estate Primaries Investment Committee, setting the platform's risk framework and investment process standards

- Help build, mentor, and develop a team of real estate investment professionals across analyst, associate, and VP levels

- Build and deepen long-term relationships with leading real estate general partners

- Represent the platform externally with institutional LPs, wealth distribution partners, consultants, and shareholders

Qualifications

- 12+ years of relevant experience in real estate investing, with deep expertise across private real estate funds, public REITs, and/or real estate credit

- Demonstrated investment judgement as a capital allocator, investor, or principal

- Established network and credibility among leading global real estate GPs

- Strong understanding of private real estate fund economics, vehicle structures, and GP-LP legal terms

- Experience contributing to the development of an investment team, including hiring and mentorship

- Exceptional written and verbal communication skills for engaging Investment Committees, Fund Boards, and institutional LPs
