About This Role
Role Overview
Flying Horse Capital acquires lower-middle-market family- and founder-owned businesses and holds them permanently. Its CFO-in-Residence program places experienced operators as CEO, CFO, or both into acquired businesses, giving them real ownership and authority — building the long-term finance function of a business the firm intends to hold for decades rather than exit.
Key Responsibilities
Flying Horse places a CFO into one of two situations:
- Owner transitioning out: the firm acquires the business, the founder/family exits, and a CEO and CFO are placed together to build the leadership team and establish credibility with employees and customers from day one
- Owner staying: the firm acquires the business and the founder/family CEO remains, but the finance function needs to be built out; the CFO becomes the first real finance leader and the CEO's right hand, bringing visibility, discipline, and decision-quality information
Qualifications
- Deep operational finance experience with a proven track record as an operator, not a deal-team analyst
- Personal investment in long-term outcomes; comfort with meaningful ownership and real operating authority
- Willingness to relocate to the acquired business's location
Compensation & Location
Meaningful ownership stake in the portfolio company. Relocation required to the acquired business (location determined per placement).
