Chief Investment Officer - National Security Strategic Investment Fund

The UK Government's National Security Strategic Investment Fund (NSSIF) is seeking a Chief Investment Officer to lead its dual-use deep-tech corporate venture capital fund, deploying up to GBP 100m per annum for National Security and Defence.

The Role:

As CIO, you will be a member of the C-Suite leadership team reporting to the CEO. You will shape and deliver NSSIF's investment strategy, lead a mission-aligned investment team, and oversee both direct investments and fund-of-fund activities.

Key Responsibilities:

- Develop and implement investment strategy (asset allocation, investment selection, portfolio management)

- Lead the investment team and oversee the investment portfolio

- Lead direct investment into UK-based deep technology companies

- Lead fund-of-fund investment activities

- Manage relationships with external fund managers and Public Financial Institutions (British Business Bank, National Wealth Fund, Innovate UK)

- Represent NSSIF publicly in the UK and internationally

- Oversee Investment Committee processes and governance

Essential Requirements:

- Significant investment experience within a Venture Capital Fund, CVC or relevant Fund Management

- Experience managing a large, multi-stage, complex portfolio of private capital investments

- Conversant in private capital legal agreements and comfortable in regulatory environments

- Exceptional communication skills and strategic thinking

- Collaborative leadership through growth and change

Desirable:

- Experience working with or in national security and defence

- Board experience within deep-tech companies

Package:

- Salary: GBP 130,000 - 165,000

- Employer pension contribution: 28.97%

- 25+ days annual leave

- Flexible working (hybrid, 40-60% office)

- Fixed term: 24 months

- SC/DV security clearance required
