Principal – Head of Underwriting | Private Credit

A leading investment platform is seeking a Principal – Head of Underwriting to lead its private credit business focused on asset-backed lending across the U.S. lower middle market. The firm is raising a Special Opportunities Credit Fund targeting short-duration, high-yield lending opportunities with strong downside protection.

The Principal will take senior leadership responsibility across the full investment lifecycle including sourcing, underwriting, structuring, execution, and portfolio management of private credit investments. This role offers significant autonomy with exposure across investment decision-making, portfolio oversight, fundraising, and platform development.

Key Responsibilities:

• Source, structure, and execute private credit transactions across the lower middle market

• Lead underwriting, due diligence, and collateral analysis on asset-backed lending opportunities

• Manage portfolio performance, valuations, and ongoing reporting

• Support LP fundraising and investor communications for the Special Opportunities Credit Fund

• Contribute to strategy development, credit framework, and platform growth

Requirements:

• 8–10 years of experience in private credit, structured finance, or special situations (asset-backed preferred)

• Strong deal execution and underwriting background with proven transaction history

• Excellent financial modeling and analytical skills

• Investor-facing experience preferred

• Entrepreneurial mindset with high ownership and collaborative culture

• Based in New York City or Los Angeles
