Atlas Venture Fund XIV

Venture Capital
Biotechnology & Life Sciences

Atlas Venture Fund XIV is a $450 million early-stage venture capital fund closed in December 2024 — the fourteenth in Atlas Venture's flagship biotech series and the firm's second oversubscribed fundraise in a row. Raised at the same size as its predecessor Fund XIII (2022), the consistent fund size reflects Atlas's deliberate 'VC math problem' thesis: early-stage biotech returns degrade with fund size, and a disciplined cap is a competitive advantage. Atlas Venture is based in Cambridge, Massachusetts, and manages approximately $3 billion across all vehicles. Fund XIV employs Atlas's distinctive seed-led venture creation model, in which the firm co-founds or incubates portfolio companies alongside scientific founders rather than receiving outside pitches. The fund invests at the seed and Series A stages across all major disease areas, treatment modalities, and business models — tracking breakthrough biology wherever it emerges from academic institutions globally, then building companies around it from Cambridge. Investing partners are Kevin Bitterman, Bruce Booth, Michael Gladstone, David Grayzel, and Jason Rhodes. The fund operates alongside Atlas Venture Opportunity Fund III ($400M, closed September 2025), which provides follow-on capital to maturing portfolio companies. Since Fund XIII closed in March 2022, Atlas generated a string of exits: four acquisitions (Nimbus/Tyk2 program, Versanis Bio, Aiolos Bio, Mariana Oncology), four IPOs (Disc Medicine, Korro Bio, Q32 Bio, Third Harmonic Bio), and an FDA approval (Day One Biopharmaceuticals Ojemda for pediatric low-grade glioma). Across its lifetime, Atlas has launched 92 biotech startups, achieved 43 IPOs, completed 39 M&A exits, and contributed to the development of over 30 approved medicines.

Atlas Venture Opportunity Fund III

Venture Capital
Biotechnology & Life Sciences

Atlas Venture Opportunity Fund III is a $400 million follow-on vehicle closed on September 4, 2025 — the largest and third in Atlas's dedicated Opportunity Fund series, which began in 2019 with a $250 million first fund and continued with a $300 million second fund in 2021. Like its predecessors, Opportunity Fund III is reserved exclusively for existing Atlas portfolio companies rather than making new platform investments, giving the firm sustained financial presence through a decade-long journey from founding to commercialization. The fund is designed to sit alongside Atlas Venture Fund XIV (closed December 2024, $450M), forming Atlas's two-vehicle investment model: Fund XIV seeds and creates early-stage biotechs through its venture creation model; Opportunity Fund III provides the longitudinal 'runway extension' capital as those companies advance through Series B, crossover rounds, IPO processes, and selective follow-on public raises. Partners Kevin Bitterman, Bruce Booth, Michael Gladstone, and Jason Rhodes lead the fund, with Jean-Francois Formela and David Grayzel contributing strategic expertise to portfolio company decisions. Opportunity Fund III closed oversubscribed against a backdrop of challenging biotech markets. Known limited partners include the New York State Teamsters Conference Pension and Retirement Fund, Penn Mutual Life Insurance Company, and Rutgers University — all described as investors in earlier Atlas vehicles. The fund was structured and closed with legal counsel from Proskauer Rose LLP. The $400M commitment represents a step-up from each prior Opportunity Fund ($250M in 2019, $300M in 2021), reflecting the growing capital needs of an expanding Atlas portfolio.
