Analysis
The Los Angeles County Employees Retirement Association (LACERA) has committed $200 million to Vision Ridge Partners' Sustainable Asset Fund IV.
This latest commitment builds on strong fundraising momentum. Fund IV has already raised approximately $350 million in just seven weeks, including a prior investment of $150 million from the New York State Common Retirement Fund. The fund is targeting a final close of $2.5 billion, with around $1.6 billion secured as of early 2025.
Vision Ridge Partners specializes in sustainable infrastructure investing, targeting sectors like clean energy, energy storage, agriculture, water systems, and electric mobility infrastructure. The firm has raised over $4.4 billion since inception and invested more than $2.6 billion across 23 portfolio companies.
Fund IV will focus on 10 to 14 global companies, with an emphasis on the United States. These investments are aimed at reducing emissions and enhancing sustainability in sectors responsible for the majority of greenhouse gas output.
The fund follows a 10-year structure, targets a 15–20% net internal rate of return (IRR), and includes an 8% hurdle rate with a 20% carried interest. Vision Ridge pursues an active management strategy to scale and exit assets to larger buyers.
LACERA approved the allocation on June 11, increasing its infrastructure exposure to approximately 4.8%, slightly above its 4.5% long-term target.
This move reinforces a growing institutional trend of prioritizing sustainable real assets for both financial returns and measurable environmental benefits, including carbon reduction, resource efficiency, and resilient infrastructure.
