Twin Prime Raises $10M for Defense AI Models

A new venture, Twin Prime, has successfully closed a $10 million pre-seed funding round to develop advanced artificial intelligence models specifically engineered for defense and national security applications. The capital infusion was spearheaded by Expeditions, with significant participation from other venture capital firms based in both the United States and Europe, alongside strategic investments from Theon, family offices, and prominent angel investors with backgrounds at industry leaders like Palantir, Anduril, and Quorum.

The core mission of Twin Prime is to create AI systems capable of natively processing and reasoning across a wide spectrum of sensor data from the physical world. This capability is crucial for compressing the time between data perception and actionable decision-making, enabling rapid responses to complex security threats. The company's founders, George Lentzas, Stephane Sezer, Drew Calcagno, and Michael Leite-Garcia, bring a unique blend of expertise from frontier AI research, quantitative finance, and extensive national security experience.

Their collective backgrounds include impactful roles at prestigious organizations such as Hudson River Trading, Google Research, Lawrence Livermore National Laboratory, Columbia University, the White House, the Pentagon, and various branches of the U.S. and European armed forces. This multidisciplinary foundation positions Twin Prime to address the intricate challenges inherent in modern defense operations.

Mikolaj Firlej, Co-founder and GP at Expeditions, highlighted the market gap that Twin Prime aims to fill. He noted that existing AI models often lack the specialized capabilities required for the complexities of contemporary warfare and security challenges, frequently exhibiting limited utility at the operational edge and struggling with integrated sensor data feeds. “Twin Prime is developing models purpose-built for high-stakes environments where size, fusion and speed are critical,” Firlej stated, emphasizing the company's focus on creating solutions that are not merely retrofits but transformative operational upgrades for defense entities.

Further underscoring the strategic importance of this funding, Twin Prime and Theon, a major European defense contractor, are establishing a joint venture.
