Analysis
Trinity Hunt Partners has unveiled a new commercial paving platform and expanded its footprint in the Pacific Northwest with the addition of Pavement Maintenance, Inc. The move creates a coast‑spanning roll‑up strategy focused on recurring maintenance, safety and operational scale under the new brand Sage Surface Partners.
The platform launched alongside the existing affiliate DACS Asphalt & Concrete, and will operate as a collection of locally led paving businesses supported by centralized capabilities. Sage Surface Partners plans to accelerate organic growth through shared technology, standardized safety protocols and coordinated business development while continuing to let incumbent teams run day‑to‑day operations in their markets.
Founded in 1993 and based in Portland, Oregon, Pavement Maintenance, Inc. specialises in sealcoating, striping, asphalt and concrete repairs, and parking‑lot sweeping for commercial, multifamily and healthcare customers. Management emphasised that the partnership preserves established customer relationships and recurring service contracts that form the bulk of the company’s revenues.
“Working with Sage keeps our local identity intact while giving us access to scale and resources,” said Greg Tansey, President of Pavement Maintenance, Inc. Sage’s executive team framed the deal as a prototype for further platform expansion. Jason Dunn, Executive Director at Sage, highlighted how the acquisition adds regional coverage and technical capacity to serve larger national clients.
Private equity backing is central to the play. Trinity Hunt Partners, which manages roughly $2 billion in assets, is positioning Sage to consolidate fragmented commercial paving and maintenance services — a sector where regional operators dominate and consolidation remains nascent. William Badarak, a Principal at Trinity Hunt, said the firm intends to pursue additional partnerships with contractors that prioritise safety and client service.
The move dovetails with broader market trends: owners and property managers are outsourcing pavement maintenance to specialist providers to reduce capex cycles and extend asset life. Industry observers estimate the total U.S. commercial pavement and maintenance addressable market sits in the low‑tens of billions of dollars, and private capital has become more active as labour constraints and technology adoption make scale more valuable.
For Trinity Hunt, Sage represents a classic roll‑up playbook — buy strong local operators, layer in centralized support and deploy additional M&A to build national reach. The firm, which has a track record building B2B and B2C services platforms, said it is actively seeking new partners for Sage and will focus on investments in technology, workforce training and safety to differentiate the platform in a competitive services market.
