Bending Spoons Slashes Tractive Workforce Post-Acquisition

Italian tech consolidator Bending Spoons is reportedly implementing significant workforce reductions at its recent acquisition, Tractive. Sources familiar with the matter indicate that approximately 160 positions are slated for elimination, representing more than half of Tractive's roughly 300 employees. This move follows Bending Spoons' acquisition of the Austrian pet-tracking device company in May.

The rationale behind the substantial layoffs, according to a Bending Spoons spokesperson, is to foster a more streamlined and agile organization. The company stated that an in-depth analysis of Tractive's operations and product portfolio revealed that a leaner structure would better enable the company to achieve its full potential in the pet location and health monitoring sector. This strategic realignment aims to enhance focus and responsiveness to customer needs within the pet owner community.

Bending Spoons, known for its aggressive acquisition strategy in the European tech space, has a history of integrating acquired companies with a focus on operational efficiency. The firm, which utilizes proprietary software like 'Minerva' and 'Juno' for automated functions in marketing, UX, and analytics, has previously undertaken similar workforce adjustments. Following its acquisition of WeTransfer, reports suggested a workforce reduction of around 75%, and a substantial portion of staff were also let go after the Vimeo acquisition.

While Bending Spoons has not officially confirmed the exact number of affected employees, it has stated that those impacted will receive severance packages exceeding standard industry benchmarks.
