Analysis

Stairling, a fintech innovator focused on the gig economy, has significantly expanded its operational footprint by acquiring MySam, a French ride-hailing platform. This strategic move aims to solidify Stairling's position as a comprehensive infrastructure provider for drivers, offering a more structured and supportive ecosystem. The integration will see MySam's operations rebranded under the new entity, Staircab, enhancing Stairling's capacity to serve a broader clientele.

The acquisition brings substantial assets under Stairling's umbrella, including nearly 200,000 customers and a network of 18,000 registered drivers across numerous French cities. Pierre Rosi, the founder of MySam, will now lead the newly formed Staircab division, bringing his on-the-ground expertise to the combined entity. This integration is expected to accelerate Stairling's mission to provide a robust, white-label mobility solution for businesses.

Staircab is designed to empower various organizations, from hotels and tourism offices to airports and local governments, to offer their own branded ride-hailing services. This B2B offering allows partners to provide transportation solutions to their customers without the complexities of managing fleets or operational logistics. The platform's flexibility is a key selling point, offering integration via API, an embeddable widget for existing websites, a fully white-label solution, and even QR code-based access points for physical locations.

This acquisition follows a period of strong growth for Stairling, which has cultivated a cooperative driver model since 2024. This model provides drivers with employee-entrepreneur status, complete with payslips and social protection, attracting a base of 2,000 drivers. The company's innovative approach previously secured €1.5 million in funding from prominent investors including Plug and Play Ventures, Kima Ventures, Source Ventures, and 199 Ventures.

The combined entity, Staircab, is positioned to process an estimated €100 million in annual transaction volume, a figure Stairling's CEO, Mimoun El Alami, aims to grow exponentially. El Alami envisions Stairling becoming the preeminent fintech player within the gig economy, with ambitious targets of reaching 3,000 to 4,000 drivers under its unique employment status by the end of 2026 and scaling to 200,000 drivers within five years, generating between €2 billion and €3 billion in annual transaction volume.

Further solidifying its financial infrastructure, Stairling is awaiting approval from the ACPR, which will enable direct processing of financial flows for its drivers, moving closer to a neobank model. This regulatory step is crucial for the company's expansion plans, which may necessitate international growth or diversification into other gig economy sectors to achieve its ambitious revenue goals. The company is also in the process of finalizing a new funding round to fuel this expansion.
