Analysis

Button, the mobile-commerce optimisation and retail-media platform, has taken a strategic growth investment from PSG to fast-track its AI-driven creator and affiliate commerce roadmap.

The undisclosed minority round sees PSG join existing backers Redpoint Ventures, Norwest Ventures and Icon Ventures, all of which will retain their stakes as Button enters its next expansion phase.

Button’s technology uses machine-learning “conversion routing” to send each shopper to the page or app where they are most likely to complete a purchase, boosting conversion rates for retailers, publishers and social-commerce creators. The company passed US $1 billion in monthly gross merchandise value in March 2024, underscoring growing demand for friction-free mobile checkout experiences.

PSG managing director Matt Stone said the firm views Button as “building the rails for where digital commerce is heading,” citing the shift to mobile-first, creator-led shopping. Sandeep Kella, incoming executive chairman, will support Button’s management as the company pursues new inventory formats and deeper retail-media integrations.

Co-founder and CEO Michael Jaconi called the deal “a pivotal moment” that will let Button bring fresh affiliate and creator products to market faster while leveraging “billions of dollars of commerce data” flowing through its network.

Why it matters

  • Accelerates AI innovation at the intersection of creator economy, affiliate marketing and retail media.
  • Provides non-dilutive growth capital while keeping long-time VC supporters onboard.
  • Signals continued investor confidence in performance-based mobile-commerce infrastructure despite tighter exit markets.
