Analysis

Post Oak Energy Capital has closed its fifth flagship fund, Post Oak Energy Partners V, LP, securing $600 million in primary commitments and $764 million in total capital including co-investments.

The fund attracted a mix of returning and new institutional backers. It will maintain Post Oak’s strategy of targeting the lower middle market in North American upstream oil and gas, including equity partnerships with experienced operators across the Permian, Utica, and Haynesville basins.

Fund V has already deployed capital to five portfolio companies, including a major position in minerals and royalties in the Permian Basin, offering immediate yield and long-term upside.

“We’re honored by the support from both existing and new investors,” said Frost Cochran, Managing Director of Post Oak. “Our focus remains on disciplined, yield-driven investment in the upstream and royalty segments.”

To date, Post Oak’s platform has backed more than 30 portfolio companies and raised close to $3 billion across multiple vehicles. The firm emphasizes risk-adjusted return and current income in the energy value chain.

Willkie Farr & Gallagher LLP acted as legal counsel and Capstone Partners (a Mizuho company) served as placement agent for the final close.
