Analysis

Platinum Equity has finalised its purchase of Anuvu, the US-based supplier of inflight entertainment and satellite connectivity, marking a strategic push into aviation content and broadband services. The private equity firm will back the company’s next growth phase; financial terms were not disclosed.

Anuvu runs two complementary businesses: a content arm that licences and localises a library of more than 400,000 titles for aircraft, ships and other non-theatrical markets, and a connectivity division providing satellite-based broadband, onboard networks and passenger analytics. The company serves an installed base across mobility customers, including more than 150 airlines and about 30 cruise lines.

CEO Josh Marks signalled continuity in leadership and ambition, saying the new ownership will accelerate investment in both software-driven services and network capacity. Platinum Equity co-presidents Jacob Kotzubei and Dan Krasner said the firm intends to build on Anuvu’s combined content-and-connectivity footprint to pursue adjacent commercial opportunities.

For Platinum Equity, the acquisition offers a vertically integrated platform: content licensing and distribution sit alongside hardware, satellite capacity agreements and onboard systems — a structure that can unlock cross-selling, margin expansion and recurring revenue through subscription or managed-service models. Potential levers include scaling streaming rights, expanding analytics products for carriers, and selective investment in satellite partnerships to raise bandwidth and reduce unit costs.

Operationally, integration will be key. Upgrading in‑flight Wi‑Fi to support 4K streaming, migrating analytics into cloud-native stacks and negotiating content rights for global routes are immediate priorities where capital and operational expertise from a PE owner could accelerate rollout. The company’s catalogue and customer list provide negotiating power with studios and satellite operators alike.

The acquisition completes a process announced in August 2025. Drake Star acted as exclusive financial advisor to Anuvu during the sale. While price details remain private, the transaction adds to a recent wave of private equity activity targeting aviation technology, connectivity assets and content platforms—sectors that combine recurring revenues with structural growth.
