Analysis

Seoul, South Korea – PMatch, a burgeoning innovator in AI-driven medication safety, has secured an undisclosed investment from the Samsung Fire & Marine Insurance–Infobank Value-Up Venture Fund No. 2. This strategic infusion of capital is earmarked to accelerate the refinement of its artificial intelligence model, specifically targeting the complex challenge of polypharmacy management among the elderly, and to broaden its deployment within elder care facilities.

Founded in 2021 by academic leaders from Seoul National University, PMatch is dedicated to mitigating medication-related risks. Its flagship product, Pilltalk, which officially debuted in January, employs AI to scrutinize registered medications. The system identifies potential ingredient redundancies and dangerous drug interactions, generating comprehensive safety reports that include a quantifiable safety score and risk assessment. This technology addresses a critical need in a nation grappling with an aging demographic and the associated rise in multiple-prescription regimens.

The company has already demonstrated traction with specialized offerings. In April, PMatch launched Pilltalk biz cares, a version tailored for institutional settings. This platform empowers care professionals and pharmacists to input patient medication lists and receive automated safety analyses. Facility administrators benefit from a web dashboard providing oversight of individuals at higher risk. Complementing this, the consumer-facing Pilltalk app is accessible on major mobile platforms, offering individuals direct access to medication safety insights.

PMatch's practical experience includes successful pilot programs in medication safety home visits across the greater Seoul area and other regions last year. Since the formal launch of Pilltalk, the company has secured paid agreements with numerous local governments and home care agencies. Notably, Seoul's Gwanak District initiative, utilizing Pilltalk for its home pharmacy program, received recognition as an innovative AI smart home pharmacy solution and was selected for a municipal grant supporting vulnerable populations.

The investment arrives as South Korea actively expands its community integrated care framework, aiming to provide comprehensive home-based medical and support services for seniors. Data from the National Health Insurance Service highlights the scale of the challenge: as of June 2025, over 1.7 million individuals were managing chronic conditions with ten or more medications for extended periods, with a significant majority being over 65. This demographic trend underscores the growing importance of solutions like Pilltalk.

“With Korea’s rapidly aging population leading to a substantial increase in patients managing multiple prescriptions, ensuring medication safety has become paramount,” stated Hyoungki Lee, CEO of PMatch. “This funding will enable us to enhance our technology for quantifying medication safety, establishing a new standard applicable not only in clinical and care settings but also potentially informing insurance underwriting processes.” The South Korean health-tech and AI sectors continue to attract significant investor interest, with recent funding rounds for companies like AMPLY and WeAid underscoring the market's dynamism.
