Analysis

PensionDanmark has tapped Cecilie Orland Kiærskou to lead a newly formed investments unit inside its property arm, signalling a step-up in focus on joint-venture and urban development projects. The hire reflects the pension fund’s strategy to deepen in-house capability for complex city-centre schemes.

The appointment, announced by the Danish pension investor, places Cecilie Orland Kiærskou at the helm of Ejendomme’s investment activities. She joins from Urban Partners — part of the Nrep group — where she served as vice president and specialised in large-scale development and responsible-investment frameworks.

Torben Modvig, CEO of PensionDanmark Ejendomme, described the recruit as someone with hands-on experience managing the investment life-cycle on some of Denmark’s most demanding urban developments. In the statement, Modvig highlighted her track record converting complex planning and construction phases into long-term asset value.

Cecilie Orland Kiærskou said she is driven by the long-term perspective that institutional capital brings, and intends to prioritise projects that balance financial returns with social and environmental value. The new head will formally start on 1 February and will be responsible for setting up the team that will execute joint ventures and development mandates.

The move comes as PensionDanmark reports a property portfolio valued at DKK 32.4bn (approximately EUR 4.34bn) and total assets under management of DKK 366bn (around EUR 49bn). Across Europe, pension funds have been increasing allocations to direct real estate and development partnerships to capture inflation-linked cashflows and to boost yield in a low-rate environment.
