Locus Robotics Acquires Nexera Robotics for Grasping Tech

Locus Robotics, a prominent player in autonomous mobile robots for warehousing, has significantly enhanced its manipulation capabilities through the acquisition of Nexera Robotics. This strategic move integrates Nexera's advanced robotic grasping technology, specifically its patented NeuraGrasp™ system, into Locus's AI platform, aiming to redefine autonomous fulfillment operations.

The integration is set to bolster the recently launched Locus Array platform, which garnered significant industry attention as a top finalist at MODEX 2026. With NeuraGrasp, Locus Array is expected to dramatically expand the variety of stock-keeping units (SKUs) and the complexity of manipulation tasks it can autonomously manage. This advancement is crucial in a warehouse automation market increasingly demanding flexibility and scalability beyond fixed infrastructure.

The core of Nexera's innovation, NeuraGrasp, addresses a critical bottleneck in warehouse robotics: the ability to reliably grasp a vast array of items. The technology combines AI-powered intelligence with onboard sensors and computer vision, all housed within a unique, adaptable soft membrane gripper. This design allows a single robotic end-effector to handle items with diverse characteristics, including varying shapes, textures, porosity, and weights, a feat that has historically challenged robotic systems.

Developed over five years and validated through millions of robotic picks, NeuraGrasp has demonstrated proficiency in handling challenging items such as textiles, bagged goods, delicate products, and irregularly shaped packages. This capability is vital for achieving true end-to-end autonomous fulfillment, a market segment projected for substantial growth as e-commerce continues its upward trajectory. The global warehouse automation market is anticipated to reach tens of billions of dollars in the coming years, with advanced manipulation being a key differentiator.

As a wholly owned subsidiary, the entire Nexera Robotics team, including its leadership, will join Locus Robotics. Locus Robotics currently serves over 150 clients across retail, healthcare, third-party logistics, and industrial sectors, operating more than 350 sites globally through its Robots-as-a-Service model. The addition of Nexera's technology is expected to unlock new operational efficiencies and expand the addressable market for their autonomous solutions.
