Humankind Acquires Management Training Platform The Mintable

Wellington-based HR solutions provider Humankind has strategically acquired The Mintable, a Sydney and Denver-founded management training platform. This move significantly enhances Humankind's people and culture services by integrating a robust digital training product, aimed at first-time managers, into its existing consultancy offerings. The acquisition follows The Mintable's substantial seed funding round of approximately AU$8 million, which included a significant investment from venture capital firm Blackbird Ventures.

The Mintable, established in 2021 by Lauren Humphrey and Melissa Miller, was designed to bridge a critical gap in practical leadership development for emerging managers. The platform leverages community and content to equip individuals stepping into management roles for the first time. Its client roster includes notable companies such as Tracksuit, Sharesies, Lion Food and Beverage, and Notion, underscoring its market traction and effectiveness in supporting distributed teams.

Kalyn Ponti, CEO of Humankind, highlighted the strategic importance of this integration. "Good leadership has an outsized impact on an organisation’s ability to perform," Ponti stated. "People are often promoted into management roles because they’re great at the work, then expected to lead others with little preparation for what that actually involves day to day. At Humankind, lifting leadership capability is a core part of the work we already do alongside executive teams. Acquiring The Mintable strengthens our ability to support our clients with this at scale." This acquisition allows Humankind to offer a more comprehensive, scalable solution that combines expert consultancy with a structured software product.

Michael Tolo, a partner at Blackbird Ventures who led The Mintable's seed round, characterized the transaction as a successful culmination of the startup's journey. "Lauren, Melissa, and the team have had a real impact training managers across the Australian ecosystem and beyond, including leaders inside many of our own portfolio companies," Tolo commented. "We’re glad to see the platform continue under Humankind’s stewardship." The Mintable's total funding comprised a AU$1.3 million pre-seed round in 2021 and the AU$6.8 million seed round in June 2022, with Blackbird Ventures as the lead investor.

The integration is expected to provide significant value to existing and future clients of both entities. Both companies have assured that current customers will continue to receive uninterrupted support.
