iPremom Raises €15M for Pregnancy Complication Diagnostics

Valencia, Spain – iPremom, a pioneering molecular diagnostics firm, has successfully closed a €15 million seed funding round aimed at transforming early detection of pregnancy complications. The significant capital infusion was spearheaded by Amadeus Capital Partners, with substantial co-leadership from Asabys (through Sabadell Asabys II) and participation from Apex Ventures. This funding will accelerate the clinical validation and commercial rollout of iPremom's proprietary MaiRa platform.

The MaiRa platform represents a paradigm shift in prenatal care, leveraging over a decade of foundational research by co-founders Professor Carlos Simón and Dr. Tamara Garrido. Their work identified that subtle molecular signals indicative of serious pregnancy issues, such as preeclampsia and preterm birth, can be detected in maternal blood as early as the first trimester. This is a critical advancement, as these complications currently affect millions globally, leading to significant maternal and infant mortality and morbidity. For instance, preeclampsia impacts 5-8% of pregnancies worldwide, imposing a substantial burden on healthcare systems and families.

iPremom's innovative approach focuses on analyzing cell-free RNA (cfRNA) circulating in the mother's bloodstream. The MaiRa platform utilizes predictive models trained on an extensive dataset derived from over 26,000 samples and 10,000 pregnancies, including data from the large-scale PREMOM clinical study conducted in Spain. This robust data foundation allows for the identification of early molecular markers, such as those linked to decidualization resistance, which can signal potential complications months before clinical symptoms manifest. The platform is designed to provide healthcare professionals with actionable insights from a single blood draw.

The newly acquired funds will be instrumental in expanding the clinical utility of MaiRa, with plans to incorporate detection for a broader spectrum of pregnancy complications as more molecular signals are identified and validated. Under the leadership of CEO Guillermo Ferrando Huertas, iPremom is committed to making this advanced diagnostic capability accessible. The platform is already available in Spain through iPremom's own laboratory facilities, marking a significant step towards wider adoption.
