Analysis

Harrison Street Asset Management, a global alternative investment firm managing $109 billion, is bolstering its Asian investor relations capabilities with a significant leadership appointment. The firm has named Michael Humphrey as Managing Director and Co-Head of Asia for its Investor Solutions Group, signaling a strategic push to deepen engagement with institutional investors across the region.

This move coincides with Harrison Street's plan to establish a new office in Singapore, which will be spearheaded by Mr. Humphrey. This expansion will complement its existing presences in Tokyo and Seoul, underscoring the firm's commitment to a localized approach in key Asian markets. The Singapore hub is expected to enhance the firm's ability to serve its growing institutional client base, which spans real estate, infrastructure, and credit strategies.

Mr. Humphrey will collaborate closely with Injong Kim, who also holds the title of Co-Head of Asia – Investor Solutions Group. Together, they will drive capital formation and investor outreach initiatives. While Mr. Kim will focus on the Korean market, Mr. Humphrey will oversee efforts in other significant Asia-Pacific territories. This dual leadership structure aims to leverage specialized regional expertise to strengthen relationships and support the firm's global real asset investment offerings.

The appointment brings a wealth of experience to Harrison Street. Mr. Humphrey joins from StepStone Group, where he previously served as Managing Director and Head of Asia. During his tenure there, he was instrumental in a wide array of fundraising, research, fund investments, secondaries, and co-investment activities throughout the continent. His prior roles include leadership positions at Courtland Partners, accumulating over two decades of experience working with global institutional investors.

This strategic expansion comes at a time when Asian institutional investors are increasingly seeking diversified real asset exposure. The region's institutional investor market is dynamic, with significant capital allocated to alternative investments. Harrison Street's focus on sectors like logistics, life sciences, and data centers, which have seen robust growth, positions it well to capture this demand. The firm's global assets under management, totaling $109 billion, reflect its established track record and broad investment mandate.

Geoff Regnery, Co-President & Global Co-Head of Investor Solutions Group at Harrison Street, expressed confidence in the new leadership. "Michael's extensive experience, deep relationships, and understanding of the Asian institutional landscape make him an outstanding addition to our team," Regnery stated. "As we continue to expand our presence in Asia, including through the opening of our Singapore office, maintaining on-the-ground expertise remains essential to delivering the highest level of service to our clients." Mr. Humphrey will report directly to Mr. Regnery in his new capacity.
