Analysis

Google has rolled out the AI Futures Fund, a bold new initiative designed to support startups that are building innovative products with the help of advanced artificial intelligence technologies. Officially unveiled on May 12, 2025, the program aims to assist ventures at every stage — from early seed rounds to late-scale growth.

The AI Futures Fund will offer selected startups early access to cutting-edge AI models, expert collaboration with teams from Google DeepMind and Google Labs, and substantial Google Cloud credits. In some cases, direct funding will also be provided. Unlike traditional accelerators, this initiative runs on a rolling basis, allowing Google to identify and support high-potential companies as they emerge.

Among the first participants are Viggle, a platform focused on meme creation, and Toonsutra, an app dedicated to webtoons. These startups illustrate the diversity of AI-driven innovation Google aims to cultivate.

This program aligns with Google’s broader mission to democratize access to AI technology. It builds on recent initiatives like a $20 million investment to back researchers and scientists, a $120 million Global AI Opportunity fund aimed at expanding AI education globally, and a $20 million accelerator to help nonprofits integrate generative AI into their work.

Startups can now apply for the AI Futures Fund through official Google channels as of May 12.
