Analysis

Wireless Logic, a UK-based leader in Internet of Things (IoT) connectivity, has announced a major milestone: a minority investment from General Atlantic, valuing the company at £3.5 billion. The deal marks a significant leap in the company's growth, underlining its strategic role in the rapidly expanding IoT ecosystem.

Founded in 2000, Wireless Logic has become a prominent global player, offering managed IoT connectivity solutions to over 25,000 customers worldwide. The company maintains strong partnerships with 53 mobile network operators, ensuring consistent global coverage. Its expansion has been supported by an aggressive acquisition strategy, completing 14 deals since 2018, including the UK-based Mobius Networks and Israeli firm Webbing.

In the fiscal year ending April 2024, Wireless Logic reported £256.7 million in revenue and £102.3 million in operating profit. However, it posted a £222.3 million pre-tax loss, mainly due to acquisition-related expenses.

The new funding from General Atlantic, through its BeyondNetZero climate growth fund, will accelerate Wireless Logic’s global ambitions. Montagu Private Equity retains its role as the majority shareholder, while the company targets expanded operations in Europe, North America, Latin America, and the Asia-Pacific region.

As part of the transaction, Vittorio Colao, former CEO of Vodafone Group, joins the board of Wireless Logic, serving alongside Sir Michael Rake, the current chairman and ex-chair of BT Group. CEO Oliver Tucker expressed enthusiasm about the new partnership, stating it aligns with Wireless Logic’s mission to streamline and automate IoT connectivity on a global scale.

The investment reflects Wireless Logic’s transformation from a startup once owned by entrepreneur Peter Jones into a global connectivity powerhouse, illustrating its successful growth trajectory and dominant market position.
