Gateway Investment Advisers, LLC, an affiliate of Natixis Investment Managers, is strategically expanding its operational capacity with two key leadership appointments. These moves signal a concerted effort to enhance its investment management capabilities and broaden its reach within the financial advisory and institutional sectors. The firm, with nearly five decades of expertise in options-based investment solutions and quantitative equity strategies, aims to leverage these new roles to accelerate its growth trajectory.

Jonathan Birtwell, a seasoned professional holding the CFA designation, has joined the firm as a Portfolio Manager. His arrival, effective January 26, 2026, brings a wealth of experience in constructing portfolios driven by macroeconomic factors, sophisticated risk management techniques, and the implementation of index options. Birtwell's background includes significant tenures at firms such as Agile Investment Management, where he was instrumental in asset allocation and risk framework development, and PanAgora Asset Management, overseeing portfolio construction and trading operations. His prior roles also span Natixis Asset Management (now Ostrum Asset Management) and Rafferty Asset Management, underscoring a deep and varied career in investment management.

Complementing Birtwell's investment acumen, Daniel Santaniello has stepped into the newly established position of Head of Sales, commencing January 1, 2026. Santaniello is tasked with spearheading Gateway's sales and marketing initiatives across its diverse product suite, encompassing mutual funds, ETFs, and separately managed accounts (SMAs). His focus will be on driving commercial momentum, particularly within the Registered Investment Advisor (RIA) and financial advisor channels, with an emphasis on the firm's specialized Extension and Single-Stock Hedging and Monetization solutions. Santaniello's extensive 28-year career at Natixis IM, where he progressed through various sales leadership roles, provides him with a profound understanding of the advisor marketplace.

These strategic hires follow Gateway's recent asset acquisition of Belmont Capital Group in August 2025. This acquisition significantly broadened the firm's offerings in single-stock risk management, tax-aware overlay solutions, and customized SMAs. The integration of Belmont's specialized expertise has already generated considerable interest in Gateway's tailored hedging and options SMA strategies, particularly among high-net-worth individuals managing concentrated equity positions. The firm's commitment to providing customizable, tax-aware investment strategies aligns with current market demands for sophisticated risk management and wealth preservation solutions.

Mike Buckius, CFA, CEO and CIO of Gateway, expressed confidence in the new appointments. He highlighted Birtwell's quantitative discipline and expertise in long-short strategies as a powerful enhancement to Gateway's established quantitative focus, aiming for consistent, risk-conscious investor outcomes. Buckius also emphasized Santaniello's deep market understanding, strong relationships, and sales leadership skills as critical assets for scaling Gateway's capabilities in response to increasing advisor demand for adaptable investment solutions.

The firm, which managed approximately $11.5 billion in assets as of December 31, 2025, continues to build upon its legacy of providing risk-mitigating equity and cash-flow enhancing option strategies. The addition of Birtwell and Santaniello is expected to further solidify Gateway's position as a provider of sophisticated, quantitatively driven investment solutions in an evolving market environment.
