Analysis

A significant consolidation within the European IT lifecycle management sector has materialized with the combination of Flex IT and T1A Group, forging a new entity boasting approximately €150 million in annual revenue. This strategic union, backed by Eurazeo, aims to create a comprehensive, end-to-end solution for corporate IT asset management, encompassing collection, certified data erasure, refurbishment, and redistribution across the continent.

The newly formed group effectively bridges the gap between IT asset retirement and remarketing. T1A, established in Denmark in 2001, specializes in the secure collection of used corporate IT equipment and its certified data sanitization and refurbishment. Complementing this, the Netherlands-based Flex IT, founded in 1991, operates an extensive distribution network of roughly 13,000 resellers for both new and pre-owned IT hardware. Flex IT also brings its own certified refurbishment capabilities in Poland, alongside rental and demonstration services, to the combined operation.

This integration allows for a seamless circular process: corporate hardware can be collected, processed at certified facilities in Denmark, the Netherlands, or Poland, and then efficiently reintroduced into the market through an established sales channel, all under a single organizational umbrella. Both entities hold the rigorous R2v3 certification, underscoring their commitment to responsible IT asset management and environmental stewardship. This consolidation is particularly timely as businesses increasingly prioritize sustainability and seek to maximize the value of their technology investments.

The transaction was facilitated by Eurazeo through its Planetary Boundaries Fund (EPBF). EPBF initially acquired a majority stake in T1A in May 2026 and subsequently supported the acquisition of Flex IT, with additional backing from Dansk Vækstkapital. This financial backing highlights investor confidence in the circular economy model within the technology sector, a market segment experiencing growing demand driven by both environmental concerns and economic efficiencies.

Angelo Bul, formerly CEO of Flex IT, will now lead the combined group as its Chief Executive Officer. Peter Hemicke, the founder of T1A, will transition to the role of Executive Chairman, focusing on strategic direction and continuing as a co-investor alongside EPBF. This leadership structure leverages the distinct expertise of both founding companies, combining T1A's proficiency in asset recovery and refurbishment with Flex IT's extensive market reach and distribution prowess.

“The challenge in circular IT has always been securing the initial supply of equipment, not finding a second life for it,” stated Angelo Bul. “Too much corporate hardware is currently discarded or sits idle. By joining forces with T1A, we can now manage the entire lifecycle of a client’s IT assets, making reuse the default, rather than just an ethical option.” Peter Hemicke added, “Building a robust collection and certified refurbishment process took us decades. Flex IT’s expertise in European distribution is equally specialized. Together, we can efficiently redeploy assets across borders, maintaining integrity and value throughout the process.”

The combined entity is well-positioned to capitalize on the expanding market for refurbished IT equipment, which is projected to grow significantly as organizations face pressure to reduce electronic waste and adopt more sustainable operational practices. The European market for IT asset disposition and refurbishment is a multi-billion euro opportunity, with increasing regulatory and corporate focus on ESG (Environmental, Social, and Governance) principles.
