Analysis

Five Point Infrastructure LLC has announced the formation of PowerBridge LLC, committing up to $1 billion in equity to develop, build, and manage gigawatt-scale data center campuses across North America. This strategic move aims to meet the surging demand for digital infrastructure driven by advancements in artificial intelligence, cloud computing, and data-intensive applications.

PowerBridge will leverage Five Point's extensive portfolio, including partnerships with LandBridge and WaterBridge, to access over 275,000 surface acres and essential resources like low-cost natural gas and water for cooling. This integrated approach ensures the development of scalable, efficient, and sustainable data center solutions.

At the helm of PowerBridge is Alex Hernandez, former CEO of Cumulus Data and Talen Energy Corp. Hernandez brings a wealth of experience, having previously led the development of a 1 GW data center campus directly connected to Talen Energy’s 2.6 GW Susquehanna Nuclear Power Plant. This project was notably acquired by Amazon Web Services (AWS) in 2024, underscoring the team's capability in delivering large-scale, innovative infrastructure.

The initiative is set to transform regions like West Texas, utilizing the area's abundant natural gas resources and favorable regulatory environment. By integrating carbon capture and storage solutions, PowerBridge aims to offer net-zero emissions data center operations, aligning with global sustainability goals.

David Capobianco, CEO and Managing Partner of Five Point, emphasized the significance of this venture, stating, “The formation of PowerBridge adds another important component to our powered land strategy. Together with LandBridge, WaterBridge, and our deep institutional relationships, PowerBridge is well-positioned to create best-in-class data, power, and fiber solutions for data center customers.”

As the digital landscape continues to evolve, PowerBridge's ambitious plans signal a significant step forward in addressing the infrastructural needs of tomorrow's technology-driven world.
