Analysis

Dubai's premier convention and exhibition center, the Dubai World Trade Centre (DWTC), has announced a landmark year for 2025, welcoming an unprecedented 2.97 million attendees. This significant influx of visitors underscores the emirate's escalating prominence as a global nexus for international commerce and industry gatherings. The facility hosted a total of 401 events, a 6% increase from the previous year, demonstrating robust growth across its diverse event portfolio.

The Meetings, Incentives, Conferences, and Exhibitions (MICE) segment experienced a notable 8% year-on-year expansion, attracting 2.19 million participants. A key driver of this success was the strong international participation, with 78% of exhibiting companies hailing from overseas markets. This highlights Dubai's magnetic pull for global businesses seeking to engage with key decision-makers and tap into burgeoning regional opportunities. The MICE sector alone saw nearly 951,000 foreign attendees, representing 43% of the total MICE audience.

Helal Saeed Almarri, Director-General of DWTC, emphasized the record-breaking performance, stating, “2025 was a record year for DWTC, reflecting the resilience and maturity of Dubai’s business events ecosystem and its continued contribution to the Dubai Economic Agenda D33.” He further noted the substantial economic value generated by these events, reinforcing Dubai's strategic economic objectives. The expansion of the Dubai Exhibition Centre, with Phase 1 now complete, has significantly boosted the city's capacity to host large-scale international events, ensuring readiness for major upcoming global summits.

The ICT, Electronics, and Emerging Technology sector emerged as a powerhouse, with 11 events drawing 341,000 participants, a remarkable 21% surge year-on-year. This growth was largely fueled by flagship events like GITEX Global and Expand North Star. The Healthcare and Medical sector maintained its leading position, hosting 23 events that attracted 436,000 attendees, accounting for 20% of total MICE attendance. Prominent gatherings in this sector included the World Health Expo and Medlab.

The Food and Beverage sector secured the third spot with 280,000 attendees across 7 events, spearheaded by the influential Gulfood and Gulfood Manufacturing expos. The Consumer Goods and Retail sector also saw significant activity, while the Security, Defence, and Safety sector rounded out the top five. The DWTC's integrated event management arm, DXB LIVE, played a crucial role, delivering comprehensive solutions for over 442 major events both domestically and internationally, further solidifying DWTC's comprehensive service offering.

Beyond existing successes, the launch of seven new trade shows in 2025 added approximately 30,000 participants and 750 exhibiting firms to the DWTC's calendar. This strategic expansion of the event schedule reflects a proactive approach to catering to evolving industry demands and attracting new business segments. Furthermore, the DWTC Free Zone bolstered the emirate's business ecosystem by licensing 850 new companies in 2025, signaling a vibrant and expanding commercial environment.
