Decade Raises $85M Seed for AI Wealth Management

In a landmark achievement for Latin American startups, Decade has successfully closed an $85 million seed funding round, setting a new record for the region's early-stage ventures. This substantial capital infusion signals strong investor conviction in the company's mission to democratize sophisticated wealth management through artificial intelligence.

The funding was spearheaded by prominent venture capital firms, with Greenoaks taking the lead. The round also saw significant participation from Benchmark and Diffusion, a firm established by Victor Lazarte, known for his success with Wildlife Studios. Additional backing came from Movile and Wayra, underscoring a broad base of support from experienced technology investors.

Decade is pioneering a hybrid approach to wealth advisory, integrating advanced AI algorithms with the expertise of seasoned human financial advisors. This dual-pronged strategy aims to provide personalized financial guidance at an unprecedented scale. The platform leverages Open Finance integrations to offer a comprehensive view of a client's financial life, meticulously analyzing spending habits, investment portfolios, and overall financial health.

The company's innovative model pairs each client with both a senior advisor and an AI system. This AI is designed to maintain conversational context and continuously monitor financial activities, ensuring proactive and informed recommendations. This sophisticated system directly addresses a critical gap in the Brazilian market, where a significant portion of the population remains underserved by traditional investment services, with only about a third participating in investments and a mere 7% able to fund their retirement solely through savings.

The venture was co-founded by Vitor Olivier, a former Chief Technology Officer at Nubank who played a pivotal role in scaling the digital bank to over 100 million customers, and Felipe Meneses, a distinguished Thiel Fellow and the founder of the AI startup Hyperplane, which was previously acquired by Nubank. Their combined experience in building and scaling disruptive financial technology ventures provides a strong foundation for Decade's ambitious growth plans.

Meneses has articulated that AI's capacity to dismantle information asymmetry is key to transforming financial advisory. He points out that traditional models often incentivize advisors to push products for commission, a conflict Decade's AI-driven, client-centric approach seeks to eliminate. By providing transparent, data-backed insights, the platform empowers individuals to make more informed financial decisions, fostering a new generation of financially empowered citizens.
