Analysis

In a strategic move to enhance its artificial intelligence capabilities within the security operations center (SOC) domain, telemetry data specialist Cribl Inc. has acquired the core technology assets of Radiant Security Inc. This acquisition marks Cribl's second significant security-focused transaction this year, underscoring its commitment to integrating advanced AI into its platform.

The acquired intellectual property from Radiant Security centers on an AI-driven system designed to autonomously triage, investigate, and resolve security alerts. Unlike traditional solutions that often rely on pre-defined playbooks, Radiant's technology dynamically constructs investigation logic for each incoming alert. This allows for direct analysis against telemetry data, irrespective of its storage location, promising a substantial reduction in false positives and an acceleration of threat detection timelines. This capability is particularly relevant in today's complex threat environment, where rapid response is paramount.

Cribl plans to integrate this AI technology as a new application within its existing telemetry platform. This approach leverages the vast amounts of data already collected and routed by Cribl, enabling the AI to operate on a unified data foundation. Cribl CEO Clint Sharp highlighted the market's fragmentation, stating, "Too much of the $121 billion security market is trapped in data silos, giving security teams incomplete information." He added that this integration aims to "end the era of siloed solutions and give security teams the intelligence they need, right when AI is reshaping the entire operations landscape."

This acquisition follows Cribl's July purchase of Israeli startup CardinalOps Ltd., which focuses on detection engineering by mapping detection rules to frameworks like MITRE ATT&CK and identifying coverage gaps. Both acquisitions reflect Cribl's strategy of consolidating functionalities that were previously siloed into standalone products, arguing that such capabilities are more effective when operating on a shared telemetry infrastructure. This consolidation aims to prevent the proliferation of disconnected tools that can create new data silos.

Industry analysts view Cribl's strategy favorably. Andrew Braunberg, principal analyst at Omdia, commented that Cribl's approach is focused on "transforming raw telemetry into a unified foundation for AI-driven applications," empowering customers to customize their security stacks. Radiant Security had previously secured $15 million in Series A funding led by Next47 in November 2023. Cribl, valued at $3.5 billion following its August 2024 funding round, continues to expand its platform's capabilities, with further announcements anticipated at its upcoming user conference, CriblCon, on September 28.
