Analysis
Private equity firm Cinven is in advanced talks to acquire French data and digital consultancy Artefact in a deal that could value the company at approximately €1 billion ($1.2 billion), according to sources cited by Bloomberg.
Cinven has emerged as the frontrunner in a competitive auction process, outbidding several rival firms in the final stage. The acquisition would represent a strategic exit for Ardian, which led a consortium to take Artefact private in 2021.
Artefact, based in Paris, is a fast-growing digital consultancy specializing in data science, artificial intelligence (AI), and digital transformation. It counts over 1,000 global clients, including blue-chip names like BNP Paribas, Carrefour, and Unilever.
The potential deal underscores private equity’s rising interest in high-growth AI and digital services providers as demand accelerates across sectors for real-time analytics, customer engagement platforms, and cloud-based infrastructure.
Ardian began exploring exit options for Artefact earlier this year with the help of JPMorgan Chase & Co. Although negotiations are advanced, final terms have yet to be confirmed, and no deal is guaranteed until signed.
This would not be Cinven’s first foray into the tech consulting space. In 2023, Cinven acquired a majority stake in Thinkproject, a German SaaS provider for construction and engineering workflows. It also backed Nitel, a cloud connectivity firm in the U.S., and previously invested in ETL Global, a European professional services platform.
Similar recent deals in the sector include:
- Permira and TA Associates co-investing in UK data platform GlobalData to scale its analytics and insights business.
- KKR acquiring a controlling stake in European IT consultancy Prodware.
- Bridgepoint backing AI-focused consultancy <strongSynthace in a €300M growth transaction.
If finalized, the deal will further cement Cinven’s strategy to target scalable, tech-enabled services with international growth potential.
