Bull, Kalray Partner on Next-Gen AI Networking

In a strategic move to bolster the infrastructure underpinning artificial intelligence and high-performance computing, French technology firms Bull and Kalray have announced a significant collaboration. This partnership is set to redefine high-speed networking capabilities, addressing the escalating demands of data-intensive AI workloads and the next generation of supercomputing environments.

The alliance will focus on developing advanced networking technologies, with a particular emphasis on compatibility with the emerging Ultra Ethernet standard. This open standard is anticipated to become a cornerstone for future data center interconnects, powering everything from massive AI factories to large-scale cloud infrastructures. By combining Bull's expertise in advanced computing platforms with Kalray's innovative data processing and networking solutions, the companies aim to deliver unparalleled performance, scalability, and efficiency.

The rapid proliferation of AI, characterized by immense data flows and increasingly distributed computing architectures, necessitates a fundamental upgrade in network infrastructure. Traditional networking solutions are proving insufficient to handle the throughput and low-latency requirements of modern AI applications. This collaboration seeks to bridge that gap, offering solutions that not only accelerate AI deployments but also optimize infrastructure utilization and reduce total cost of ownership for organizations worldwide.

Under the terms of the agreement, Kalray will license its proprietary hardware and software technologies, honed over more than a decade, along with its advanced data processing architecture expertise. This includes providing its Kalray Networking Engine, capable of supporting up to 1.6 Tbps and featuring 64 next-generation RISC-V cores. Bull, in turn, will leverage these advancements to enhance its own BXI network technology, ensuring full compatibility with emerging standards like Ultra Ethernet and addressing the security and virtualization needs of cloud and AI workloads. Initial solutions stemming from this partnership are anticipated to reach the market by 2028.
