Analysis

Brookfield Asset Management has completed the final close of its flagship energy transition strategy, Brookfield Global Transition Fund II (BGTF II), securing $20 billion in capital from a broad group of global institutional investors.

With an additional $3.5 billion in co-investment capital committed alongside the fund, total capital raised for this investment cycle amounts to approximately $23.5 billion. BGTF II is now the world’s largest private fund focused exclusively on the clean energy transition.

The fund exceeded its original target and surpassed the size of its predecessor, Brookfield Global Transition Fund I, which raised $15 billion. Anchor investors in BGTF II include ALTÉRRA with $2 billion and Norges Bank Investment Management with $1.5 billion, alongside numerous returning and first-time LPs.

Over $5 billion has already been deployed into a diversified group of high-quality energy transition assets:

  • Neoen – a take-private acquisition of a leading global renewable power and battery storage developer
  • Geronimo Power – a U.S.-based clean energy platform with a large pipeline in strategic markets
  • Evren – a joint venture in India to develop over 10 GW of wind, solar, and energy storage capacity

Connor Teskey, President of Brookfield Asset Management and CEO of Renewable Power & Transition, emphasized that rising global energy demand driven by electrification and artificial intelligence is accelerating the need for large-scale, low-carbon infrastructure solutions.

Brookfield has been a pioneer in climate infrastructure investment. BGTF I deployed capital into renewable energy, carbon capture, sustainable aviation fuel, battery storage, and nuclear energy—highlighted by a controlling investment in Westinghouse, a global leader in nuclear services.

The firm has also secured landmark clean power agreements with technology giants including Microsoft and Google, representing some of the largest long-term corporate clean energy procurement deals globally.

Brookfield Asset Management Ltd. (NYSE: BAM; TSX: BAM) is a global alternative investment manager with over $1 trillion in assets under management across infrastructure, renewable power, transition investing, private equity, real estate, and credit.

The firm partners with institutional investors, sovereign wealth funds, pension plans, financial institutions, and private clients, offering access to real assets and essential service businesses worldwide. Headquartered in New York, Brookfield operates across more than 30 countries with a long-term, value-driven investment approach rooted in operational expertise and global scale.

With BGTF II, Brookfield strengthens its position as a global leader in financing the energy transition and supporting decarbonization efforts across key sectors and geographies.
