Analysis
Ventive Hospitality Ltd., a fast-growing hotel platform backed by Blackstone and India’s Panchshil Group, has announced a significant expansion of its partnership with Marriott International to develop seven new hotels across India and Sri Lanka. The new properties will add 1,548 hotel rooms to their combined South Asian portfolio over the next five years.
Ventive, which listed publicly in December 2024, currently operates 11 hotels across India and the Maldives. The firm aims to more than double its room inventory to over 4,000 rooms in the next five years, with an estimated investment of INR 2,500 crore (~USD 300 million). Funding will primarily be sourced from profits generated by existing operations, with short-term capital needs supported through debt financing if required.
Atul Chordia, Chairman and Executive Director of Ventive Hospitality, remarked, “This strategic collaboration deepens our longstanding relationship with Marriott International and marks a transformative moment for upscale hospitality in South Asia. These projects are a testament to our confidence in the region's economic and tourism potential.”
Marriott International, which currently operates over 142 hotels in India and manages more than 25,500 rooms, sees South Asia as a key growth market. Its Asia Pacific president (excluding China), Rajeev Menon, said, “We’re excited to expand with Ventive as we continue to meet rising demand from both business and leisure travelers across the region.”
In addition to Ventive’s growth in India, the group is also developing a Ritz-Carlton Reserve on Sri Lanka’s pristine east coast, featuring 73 villas and 80 branded residences, aimed at international travelers seeking exclusive luxury experiences.
The South Asian hospitality sector is expected to grow steadily over the next decade, with industry forecasts projecting a rise in branded hotel room supply across the region. With this expansion, Ventive and Marriott are positioning themselves to capture market share in one of the world's fastest-emerging travel markets.
