4AG Robotics raises CAD 40M to scale AI mushroom harvesting - InforCapital

London, UK – July 29, 2025. Cibus Capital, the UK-based specialist in sustainable food and agriculture investments, has co-led a CAD 40 million (approx. USD 29.5 million) Series B round in 4AG Robotics, a global leader in autonomous mushroom harvesting systems.

The investment will enable 4AG Robotics to scale manufacturing, expand field service operations, and accelerate R&D for new features including AI-powered disease detection, punnet packing automation, and yield optimization.

In response to the mushroom industry’s persistent labour shortages and rising costs, 4AG Robotics’ technology delivers a fully automated solution using computer vision, precision suction grippers, and advanced motion control. The robots operate 24/7, integrate seamlessly into existing farm infrastructure, and already harvest up to one million mushrooms per week.

Sean O’Connor, CEO of 4AG Robotics, stated the company is now shifting from startup phase to scalable production. With deposits placed for over 40 additional robotic units, the company is poised to lead in a global mushroom market projected to surpass USD 70 billion by 2030.

The round was co-led by Cibus Capital and Astanor Ventures, with new backing from Voyager Capital and continued support from InBC, Emmertech, BDC Industrial Innovation Fund, and others. This brings the company's total raised over the past 24 months to more than CAD 58.5 million (USD 43 million).

4AG’s Series B comes amid a surge in investment across AI-driven agricultural automation and robotics startups:

• Iron Ox, a U.S.‑based robotics greenhouse startup, raised USD 65 million to scale AI‑controlled indoor farming systems.
• Agtonomy secured USD 55 million to expand its autonomous tractors and fleet management software for specialty crop farms.
• Carbon Robotics completed a USD 90 million Series C to deploy its LaserWeeder technology, automating weed control across vegetable farms.
• FarmWise, focused on row crop automation, raised USD 45 million to expand its AI weeding robots across U.S. farmland.
• Fieldin raised USD 60 million to digitize orchard operations, integrating sensors, automation, and AI dashboards.

These funding rounds reflect a clear industry trend: investors are betting on agtech robotics as a solution to labour shortages, cost pressures, and sustainability demands. As food security and production resilience become top global priorities, the integration of AI, robotics, and precision farming is redefining how crops are grown and harvested.
