Senior Managing Director – Buy & Build, Value Creation & Portfolio Management

Role Overview

AURELIUS is a globally active private equity investor with an operational, hands-on approach, focused on private markets — particularly Private Equity and Private Debt. Its investment platforms include AURELIUS Opportunities V, AURELIUS European Opportunities IV, AUR Portfolio III and AURELIUS Wachstumskapital. The firm has grown strongly in recent years, especially internationally, and now employs more than 400 people across 10 locations in Europe, North America and Asia. AURELIUS is hiring a (Senior) Managing Director for its AURELIUS Wachstumskapital operating team in Germany, to take end-to-end ownership of 2–4 platform investments from closing to exit, acting as single point of contact for management, partners and investors.

Key Responsibilities

- Own platform strategy end-to-end, from closing through management build-out to exit, acting as a true "company builder"

- Define and execute the buy-and-build (add-on acquisition) strategy for each platform

- Orchestrate AURELIUS's internal operating resources — Operations Task Force, Finance Task Force, Digital Factory, Recruiting — to maximize value creation across the portfolio

- Lead the road-to-exit process, from strategic preparation through to sale

- Support the investment team on strategy and commercial due diligence for new platforms, and help structure financing (acquisition, growth and refinancing)

- Build the platform portfolio progressively over 1–2 years; the role involves significant travel, and no relocation is required

Qualifications

- Multi-year operational track record as Managing Director/CEO in the Mittelstand (mid-market), with full P&L responsibility in the high-double-digit to triple-digit million range, including demonstrable value creation and/or buy-and-build experience

- Relevant M&A/PE exposure — ideally in small/mid-cap PE as Operating Partner, Portfolio CEO or Investment Director — with a strong understanding of holding period, leverage and exit mechanics

- Strategic and conceptual strength, ideally including experience at a leading strategy consultancy

- University degree (business, science or engineering); solid commercial and sales understanding

- Entrepreneurial, hands-on, decisive, cost-conscious and confident operating across shop floor, management and investor board settings
