About This Fund
The United Airlines Ventures Sustainable Flight Fund (SFF) is a venture capital investment vehicle dedicated to decarbonizing commercial aviation, managed by United Airlines Ventures, the corporate venture arm of United Airlines. Launched in February 2023, SFF reached a final close of over USD 200 million in February 2024 and won Fast Company's 2024 World Changing Ideas Award, positioning it as the aviation industry's defining sustainable-fuel and clean-technology investment platform.
SFF invests in early-stage and growth-stage companies developing sustainable aviation fuel (SAF) production technologies, alternative propulsion systems, carbon removal solutions, and complementary clean-energy innovations relevant to commercial air travel. The fund operates as a syndicate vehicle through which United Airlines and its partners co-invest alongside portfolio startups, allowing the fund's diversified LP base to directly engage with portfolio companies as potential commercial customers, off-take partners, and supply chain collaborators — accelerating both the technology and the commercial pathways to aviation decarbonisation.
SFF's final close brought together more than 20 institutional partners spanning the global aviation ecosystem, including Air Canada, Air New Zealand, American Express Global Business Travel, Aviation Capital Group, Boeing, Boston Consulting Group, GE Aerospace, Groupe ADP, Hawaiian Airlines, Honeywell, JetBlue Ventures, Google, Embraer, Safran Corporate Ventures, Technip Energies, Aircastle, HIS, and Natixis Corporate & Investment Banking. The breadth of SFF's LP base — spanning OEMs, MRO providers, technology platforms, financial institutions, and competing airlines — underscores the sector-wide consensus that SAF is the critical near-term lever for aviation decarbonisation.
