About This Fund
Toyota Ventures Frontier Fund II is the second deep technology venture fund of Toyota Ventures, the corporate venture capital subsidiary of Toyota Motor Corporation. Announced on April 10, 2024, Frontier Fund II closed at $150 million as part of a $300 million dual-fund raise alongside the Toyota Ventures Climate Fund II, bringing total firm assets under management to over $800 million. The fund is managed from Los Altos, California, and maintains Toyota Ventures' core mandate that financial returns must take precedence over strategic fit with Toyota's core automotive business.
Building on the inaugural Frontier Fund (2021 vintage, $150M), Frontier Fund II targets early-stage startups at the cutting edge of artificial intelligence, robotics, mobility, cloud computing, quantum computing, aerospace, and other deep technology domains. A key strategic enhancement in the second fund is a deliberately expanded international footprint, covering North America, Europe, the Middle East, and Asia-Pacific more comprehensively than its predecessor. The fund is led by partner David Sokolic, a veteran investor and operating executive who has worked alongside Jim Adler since Toyota Ventures' formation.
By the time of Frontier Fund II's launch, Toyota Ventures had backed more than 75 portfolio companies across all funds, establishing itself as a significant participant in the corporate venture ecosystem. The fund was raised during a period of broader VC market contraction, reflecting Toyota's sustained long-term commitment to innovation investment. The combined $300 million dual-fund close in April 2024 represented the largest single fundraising event in Toyota Ventures' history and affirmed the firm's position as one of the most active corporate VC platforms in deep technology globally.
